Congratulations to Lincoln, Emerson, Hayes and Roosevelt elementary schools on being honored by Gov. Mike DeWine in his new Governor’s Science of Reading Recognition Program, which recognizes schools who have aligned their curriculum with the Science of Reading, embraced professional development for teachers and raised literacy achievement among students. Our four schools were among 47 schools recognized by the governor.

Congratulations to fourth grader Abel Sisco on winning the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce's annual "Why I Love Lakewood" contest! Abel earned the right to join Santa to flip the switch on the city holiday lights at Light Up Lakewood Dec. 7. He also read his essay at the event. Congratulations to fifth grader Ana Diekroger on being named the 2024 Junior Fire Chief! The junior chief earns the title by winning the annual fifth-grade essay contest on Fire Prevention Week's theme, which this year is "Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work For You." As is tradition, Ana arrived at school today in the front seat of a Lakewood Fire Department truck with the school's students and staff there to greet and cheer her on. Ana also read her winning essay at the Fire Department Recognition Ceremony on Oct. 6. Well done, Ana!

The Lakewood City Schools and the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation (LREF) have been awarded a $30,000 grant from Howmet Aerospace Foundation that will be dedicated to purchasing 3D printers for our seven elementary STEM classrooms. This is the fourth Howmet grant LREF has received to benefit Lakewood students.

Congratulations to Grant Elementary School and Lincoln Elementary School for earning 5-Star Recognition! It's a significant achievement to receive the Overall 5-Star Building Award, which is given to buildings that exceed state standards by performing exceptionally well across all 5-rated components on the state report card. This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of the staff, students, and the entire Grant and Lincoln school community. Well done!
